Life in the Spirit

Life in the Spirit

At the Last Supper, Jesus made a promise to His disciples:

“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.”  (John 14:16-17)

Jesus knew that when He was no longer on earth, His disciples would not be able to live the kind of life He had called them to.  So He promised to send the very Spirit of God. And on the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit came down upon them, to remain with them. This Spirit of Truth which The Father sent, in the Name of Jesus, is to teach us everything and is to remind us of all which Jesus has said.

Life in the Spirit Seminars began during the early to mid-1960’s within the Catholic Church. And since this time, it is estimated that well over 60 million Lay Catholics, Clergy and Religious throughout the world have taken part in these Seminars. A great number find them so helpful that they choose to repeat them for further growth.

The goal of the Life in the Spirit Seminars is very limited.  They are designed to help people find a new, fuller and better life as members of the Church Community. Assisting one towards strengthening a foundation of a truly Christ-like life.  “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (1 Cor 3:11)

The seminars, therefore, are concerned with the most basic part of a Christ-centered life: This being of establishing a person in Christ by means of our re-acquainting one to prayer, study, community and the necessity of the Sacraments within the Catholic Church.  To accomplish that goal, there are four things the Life in the Spirit Seminars try to do.

Life in the Spirit Seminars tries to:
1. To Help those who come to the seminars establish, re-establish or deepen a personal relationship with Christ and the Sacraments of the Church;
2. To Help those who come to the seminars to yield to the action of the Holy Spirit in their lives so that they can begin to experience His presence and can begin to experience Him working in them and through them;
3. To Help those who come to the seminars be joined to Christ more fully by becoming part of the Parish community or a group with whom they can share their Christian life and from whom they can receive support in that life;
4. To Help them begin to make use of effective means of growth in their relationship with Christ.

The Seminars consist of 8 consecutive sessions held over an eight week schedule.  The FIRST WEEKLY SESSION is what we designate as an “INTRODUCTORY SESSION”. It is an Invitation to you for the sole purpose of acquainting you with the scheduled program.  This is then followed by the seven Seminar Sessions.

Seminar 1:          God’s Love
Seminar 2:          Salvation
Seminar 3:          The New Life
Seminar 4:          Receiving God’s Gift
Seminar 5:          Praying for Baptism in the Holy Spirit
Seminar 6:          Growth
Seminar 7:          Transformation in Christ
