Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 29, 2017

“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul,

and with all your mind.”— Matthew 22:37

Today’s scriptures emphasize the fundamental link between love of God and love of our neighbors, especially those who are most in need. Love of God should compel us to love the people whom God cherishes. Conversely, work for justice and charity for those in need should be rooted in our love of God.

That connection and balance, however, isn’t always easy to maintain in our lives. Even in religious orders we find that some Christians are more oriented toward contemplation and prayer, while others are more active in reaching out to those who are oppressed.

Today Jesus reminds us of the necessity for both in the life of faith.

 Holy day of obligation

Wednesday, November 1, 2017, is a Holy Day of Obligation in Observance of All Saints Day. We will be having two Masses on that day, 12:00 noon, & 7:00 pm. There will be a Vigil Mass on Tuesday, October 31st, 2017 at 5:30 pm. Let us celebrate and pray for the intercession of all Holy Men and Women in Heaven. In observance of the Holy Day of Obligation, the parish office will be closed and will resume office hours on November 2nd.

“Everything, even sweeping, scraping vegetables, weeding a garden and waiting on the sick could be a prayer, if it were offered to God.”  -San Martin de Porres

On Thursday, November 2nd, we will begin All Soul’s Day Masses for the repose of the souls of all the faithful departed. If you wish to remember your loved ones in these Masses, please write their names down in the binders located in the foyer of the Church and Chapel or you may come to the parish office to submit their names.

The Mass Intention Book for the 2018 calendar year will be opening on Tuesday, November 14th at 9:00 am. We will be taking intentions for Masses, Sanctuary Candles, and Altar Flowers. There will be a limit of 5 Mass Intentions per person. We will be having 1 Mass Intention for our weekday Masses and our weekend Masses will rotate between being one intention, collective intentions, and “For the People of the Parish”. We will be having a maximum of 5 intentions for our collective Masses. No intentions will be placed before this date and must be done in person. If you have any questions contact Yvonne Andrade in the parish office at 956-723-5215 Ext. 18.
